The Wright Ranch in Goodyears Bar is one of the first ranches in this area.
When talking of the history of this ranch, one must rename this ranch to understand who in turn owned the ranch.
It has been called, the Jason Campbell, Kennedy, Costa,
Wright Ranch .
Jason Campbell
was born in St. Joseph, Missouri in 1834 . He was raised as a farmer.
Jason started West to California in 1849 .
For personal reasons, Jason, immediately returning to St. Joseph. After taking care of unknown problems,
Jason started West again, arriving in Placerville, CA in
September,1850 . The spring of 1851 finds
Jason crossing into Sierra County . It seams he arrived in Goodyears Bar in
July where he immediately became a miner, minning untill 1853 . Jason Campbell accquired the
ranch and started a Livery stable. With the increase in people coming to Goodyears Bar,
business was good, Jason sold the Livery Stable in 1857.
Continuing to work the ranch for many years, Jason sold the ranch to H.H.Kennedy in
1876 .
Henry Kennedy was born in Ohio on Decemeber 19,1837 .
He came to California with his family in 1875 and purchased this beautiful ranch in Goodyears Bar ,
a year later in 1876 . In 1880, Henry built the great house that still stands today.

Antinio Costa, resident, of Downieville bought the ranch in 1920 .
Costa started and ran a dairy on the ranch. He is noted for selling some of the best tasting vegetables in
this part of the country.
In the late 1920's this ranch was pruchased by Mrs. Marie Wright . This ranch is still known
today as the Wright Ranch. Everyone who has lived in or owned the ranch has been related in some fashion to
Mrs. Marie Wright. Her daughter and son-in-law (Mr.& Mrs. Evertt Bertillion)
have kept the ranch in inmackalet condition. Betty Smart is the daughter.
Betty married and lived on the ranch for years. They have since passed on and the ranch is now in the care of their children.

H.H. Kennedy
The son of Maxwell & Eveline Kennedy was born in
Thumbull County, Ohio on December 19, 1837. He left home at age 21
(in 1848)
traveling around the Isthmas to San Francisco . Henry Kennedy
then went to Eureka Diggings in Sierra County. He worked at a sawmill in the summers and
mined the rest of the year, untill 1863
