Goodyears Bar Schoolhouse Museum cases being built

The recent school house in Goodyears Bar was built in 1862 from subscription. This account is from a publication of the era. The wood and materials were taken from a house(s) being tore down or perhaps fluming materials from Snakes Bar. This settlement is between Goodyears Bar and Cox's Bar (a town some 2 miles or so up river towards Downieville, CA). This school house was not on the list of buildings that burnt in the great Goodyears Bar's Fire of 1864. . The author, Cy Rollins is of the opinion, the school house did not burn and is in fact the present school house . This school is the orginal one built in 1862. An inspection of the school for signs of having been burnt, showed no signs of having been in a fire. Since then several rooms and a few minor modifications to the building have been made. The school was closed in 1953 and the kids of Goodyears Bar were bussed to Downieville. Downieville is just 4 miles up the road. For a while this school was used as a Day Care Center for kids. Now, this historic building is being turned into a Museum. Cy and crew are remodeling this historic building to accomodate display cases, a security system, cameras, and exhibits.
